Poppy appeal at London Stansted raises £24k

The Royal British Legion (RBL) Poppy appeal at London Stansted this year raised a record breaking £24,000 in support of military veterans and their families.

The generosity of passengers and airport staff saw this year’s collection total surpass the previous best of £21,000 set in 2024.

A team of 136 civilian and 66 military volunteers from the 33 and 35 Royal Engineer Regiments helped staff the Legion’s stand in the airport’s terminal in the run up to Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day.

Simon Bambridge of the Royal British Legion Stansted District, said:

“I’d like to once again thank all the staff and passengers at London Stansted for their help and support during this year’s poppy appeal. To beat the total we collected at the airport last year is a fantastic achievement and testament to everyone’s generosity.

“The money raised will make another vital contribution to the on-going care and support the Royal British Legion provides to numerous veterans and their families and will make a real difference to the lives of those who have served our country.”

Dan Turpin, London Stansted’s Community Engagement Manager, said:

“We are always proud and honoured to host the Royal British Legion’s Poppy appeal at the airport, doing what we can to support such a poignant and important cause.

“To raise such a fantastic amount of money is really heartwarming and testament to the generosity and kindness of passengers and staff across the airport who recognise the vital difference their donations can make to veterans and their families.”
