Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) is delighted to announce that Notley High School and Sixth Form has joined its innovative CPR Smart programme. This life-saving initiative equips schools across Essex and Hertfordshire with essential CPR training, ensuring teachers and students are prepared to act confidently in the event of a cardiac arrest.
In a significant milestone for the programme, sixth form students at Notley High School have not only completed their CPR Smart training but have now stepped up as CPR Smart Champions. On the 18th and 19th December 2024, these students delivered CPR training to approximately 1,200 pupils across Years 7 to 13—making this the largest and first fully student-led training effort since the programme started.
Adam Carr, Clinical Community Lead at EHAAT, said: “At Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, we are committed to equipping as many people as possible with the confidence and knowledge to perform CPR. Notley High School and Sixth Form’s enthusiasm and leadership in becoming CPR Smart is truly inspiring. Their student-led approach demonstrates the programme’s power to create a ripple effect, empowering entire school communities with life-saving skills.”
The CPR Smart programme is a free community initiative designed to make CPR training accessible to schools. By training educators and older students to become competent CPR instructors, EHAAT ensures that essential life-saving techniques are passed down to students, creating a generation better prepared to respond to emergencies.
Maria Gladen, Assistant Headteacher Notley High School and Sixth Form, said: “We are incredibly proud to be part of Essex & Herts Air Ambulance’s CPR Smart programme. This initiative has not only equipped our students with essential life-saving skills but also inspired them to take the lead in training their peers. The enthusiasm and dedication of our sixth form students in becoming CPR Smart Champions is truly remarkable. By empowering our school community with these vital skills, we are helping to create a safer future for everyone.”
By becoming an EHAAT CPR Smart School, Notley High School and Sixth Form and others are playing a vital role in increasing bystander CPR rates, helping to save more lives. The programme also encourages students and staff to develop initiatives such as CPR demonstrations, video resources, and CPR-awareness campaigns within their schools and communities.
