Bartech is a family-owned engineering firm that specialises in diesel engines, propulsion and control systems. The company was founded in 1987 be Gerald “Barney” Barnett, whose expertise in engine maintenance – gained from two decades at Paxman Diesels and years working on engines around the world – shaped the vision and values of Bartech from the outset. With a mission to revolutionise engine maintenance, Gerald laid the foundations as Bartech has grown to become a global powerhouse serving a diverse range of sectors, including marine, oil and gas, nuclear, wind farm, locomotive and power generation. As of 2023, the company boasts a turnover of £10.8 million, operates from state-of-the-art facilities in Colchester and Aberdeen, and employs more than 70 highly skilled professionals. 

We deliver reliability, safety and innovation, offering comprehensive, customer-focussed solutions across marine, oil, gas and power sectors. 

Our team are renowned for their reliability, especially in industries where downtime is not an option. This commitment is best demonstrated through the company’s work in the North Sea, where we maintain more engines for oil and gas operators under long-term service agreements than any other service provider. Our dominance in this area underscores Bartech’s ability to deliver consistent, reliable service in environments where engine failure could have catastrophic consequences. With extensive experience across a wide range of engines – including leading brands such as Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit, Deutz, Dorman, Mercedes, and Paxman – our team is equipped to handle the most complex engineering challenges. Our multi-engine proficiency also earned our engineering experts the distinction of being an authorised dealer for industry giants such as mtu, MAN, and Geislinger.  

The judging panel was particularly impressed by our efforts to strategically expand our provisions in order to meet the constantly evolving needs of our clients. Recognising the advantages of a streamlined service approach, we have developed additional branches to serve as a single point of contact for engineering, control systems, propulsion, turbocharger support and parts supply. This integrated service model benefits clients by simplifying maintenance and servicing for operators while also ensuring that Bartech can deliver comprehensive solutions tailored to each client’s specific requirements.
