Art trail buzzing into Chelmsford in 2025

Chelmsford will be buzzing next summer when a swarm of colourful bee sculptures lands in the city centre, raising money for Farleigh Hospice.

Around 40 of the brilliant bees will be installed outside places of interest in Chelmsford. Each one will be decorated with a unique design by a talented local artist, forming the ‘Buzz in the City’ art trail through the city’s streets and parks.

People can follow the trail and explore parts of Chelmsford they may not have seen before using a map or by downloading the Buzz in the City mobile app.

This will be the first time that Chelmsford has hosted a sculpture art trail. Organisers at Farleigh Hospice are working with Chelmsford For You - the city’s Business Improvement District - to create this exciting event with support from Chelmsford City Council.

Farleigh’s Commercial Director, Pauline Harvey-Jones, said, “The Buzz in the City art trail promises to be a great outdoor activity that will attract thousands of visitors to Chelmsford next summer, increasing tourism and boosting the local economy. We are inviting Essex businesses and artists to bee part of this exciting new event as it is an excellent opportunity to raise your profile and reach potential new customers.”

Local businesses can be part of the art trail by sponsoring a bee sculpture. Your name, logo and details will be displayed on its plinth and included on the Buzz in the City app. People following the trail and passers-by will see that you are proudly supporting this exciting art event and your local hospice charity.

For artists, it is a brilliant chance to create a unique piece that will be displayed in the centre of Chelmsford for thousands of people to admire.

There are a limited number of sculptures to sponsor and decorate, so anyone interested should contact Farleigh Hospice now by emailing arttrail@farleighhospice.org
